Spy photos anticipate renewed Ford Fiesta later this year

Launched in 2017 and with strong and latest rivals to face, the Ford Fiesta was already starting to clamor for a more substantial update. As these spy photos show, it looks like it's on its way.

Scheduled to reach the market by the end of 2021, Fiesta promises stylistic and technological updates. The test prototype picked up on the street is a Fiesta Active, the “rolled up pants” version of the utility.

Despite being completely camouflaged, the big differences for the current model will be concentrated in the front, where it is possible to see a new grille (apparently lower) and a new bumper. Behind the differences seem to be, for the moment, non-existent. Inside, no big differences are expected for the current model.

Having been reinforced last year with EcoBoost mild-hybrid engines, already in compliance with the Euro6D standard, no new engine is expected. In fact, the number of engines in the Fiesta will even be reduced, and the Diesel engine is not expected to be part of the future, restyled range.

In relation to the Ford Fiesta ST — which has a strong rival in the new Hyundai i20 N —, everything points to it being updated and remaining on sale until the end of the SUV's career, which will last until, it is estimated, 2024.

Ford Fiesta, what future?

Recently, we learned about Ford's plans for Europe, in which the American brand stated that, from 2030 onwards, all its models sold in the “old continent” will be 100% electric. What will this decision mean for Fiesta's future?

We know that from 2023 onwards, the production of a new 100% electric model will start at the factory in Cologne, Germany, the same (and only one) that produces the Fiesta. However, this electric model is the result of the partnership with Volkswagen, that is, it will derive from the MEB platform, the same as the ID.3. So, we are talking about a larger model, similar to a Focus and not a Fiesta.

Taking into account Ford's timetable for its full electrification in Europe, it is still possible to “fit” a successor to the Fiesta with partially electrified (hybrid) engines on the agenda, which would translate into a six-year commercial career (starting in 2024) , that is, the normal we see in the industry.

Will Ford do it? Or will the brand risk everything on a successor only and only electric? Will there be a successor?
