Speculation begins: BMW registers 2 Series, M7, M10...

If you were one of the top managers of a car brand, what reasons would lead you to register a trade name? Of the two, either they are going to produce a new car model and need to register the desired name, or because they have some old models that need to have their name renewed legally, if they want to continue to own it.

In a forum dedicated to the BMW world, the e90 Post, an article was published with a multitude of new registrations made by the German brand:

    • X2, X4
  • M1, M2, M7, M10
  • Series 2
  • Series 2 Active Tourer
  • M35, M40, M55, M300, M350, M400, M500
  • M130, M135, M140, M230, M235, M240, M330, M335, M340, M430, M435, M440, M450, M550, M650, M750
  • M50d
  • Tourer, Compaction Compression, Gran Tourer, Urbanic
  • E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, E8, E9
  • i1, i2, i3, i4, i5, i6, i7, i8, i9
  • Z8
  • GC, Gran Coupe, BMW Gran Coupe, Gran Coupe 6er
  • SportMode, CoolMode, Air Collar, BMW TurboTec, Drive eCharged, LifeDrive, i Pedelec
  • Corniche, Shadow, Cloud, Wraith, Dawn

The odd numbers on this list will be used for sedans, vans and SUVs, while the even numbers will be used for coupés and convertibles.

Speculation begins: BMW registers 2 Series, M7, M10... 32865_1

Starting at the end, all those names, Corniche, etc., are all names used on older Rolls-Royce models, so these were certainly some of the names that needed revamping to preserve the brand's past, just like everyone else. names with E and the designation Z8.

But not everything is thinking about the past, the i designations are (we think) a way for BMW to guarantee a closer future, as is the case of the already known i8 and i3.

Many expect to see, as early as next year, the Series 2 in action and although there is also much speculation about the M7 (M version of the Series 7) there is still not much certainty about anything. But if there is a name that leaves us intrigued, that name is the M10! It may be just a brand prevention method to prevent anyone else from using it, but tell me if the M10 name doesn't inspire something very good? We'll see…
