Volkswagen ID.4. All about the new family member ID

Anonim

In production at the factory in Zwickau, Germany, for a month now, the Volkswagen ID.4 was officially presented by the German brand.

According to a member of Volkswagen's ambitious family of electric models (ID), the ID.4 is based on the MEB platform, which serves as the basis for the “brother” ID.3 and the “cousins” Skoda Enyaq iV and CUPRA el-Born .

Contrary to what happens with the Volkswagen ID.3, the new ID.4 will be a global model (it is the first model in the ID range to be so), and its commercialization is planned not only in Europe, but also in China and the USA .

Volkswagen ID.4

The goal is to sell 1.5 million electric cars/year around 2025 and for that Volkswagen counts on the contribution of ID.4, which it estimates will represent 1/3 of these sales.

family look

Aesthetically, the ID.4 does not hide the familiarity with the ID.3, presenting an aesthetic that follows the line inaugurated by its “younger brother” that we were recently able to test in Portugal.

As for the interior, as we said the first time Volkswagen revealed it a few weeks ago, the biggest highlight turns out to be the absence of physical controls and the presence of two screens, one for the instrument panel and the other for infotainment.

In the dimension chapter, the Volkswagen ID.4 is 4584 mm long, 1852 mm wide, 1612 mm high and 2766 mm wheelbase, values that make it longer (+102 mm) and wider (+13 mm) than the Tiguan but shorter than its range “brother” (-63 mm).

Taking advantage of the potential offered by the MEB platform, the ID.4 offers good levels of habitability in a luggage compartment with 543 liters, which can go up to 1575 liters thanks to the folding of the seats.

On some versions the rims measure 21''.

Both versions are based on the ID.4 Pro Performance and have an engine of 150 kW (204 hp) and 310 Nm placed on the rear axle. As for the battery, it has 77 kWh of capacity and in these versions offers an autonomy of about 490 km (WLTP cycle), a value that rises to 522 km in the ID.4 Pro Performance.

When equipped with this engine, the Volkswagen ID.4 fulfills the traditional 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5s and reaches 160 km/h of top speed.

In the future, the arrival of a less powerful version (the ID.4 Pure) with about 340 km of autonomy is foreseen, which Volkswagen advances, which should see its price start below those 37 000 euros.

The trunk offers 543 liters of capacity.

Later, a version with two engines (one mounted on the rear axle and one on the front) will arrive, all-wheel drive and 306 hp (225 kW) powered by the 77 kWh battery. As for the GTX variant (that's what the sporty versions of electric Volkswagens will be called), that remains an open question.

And the loading?

As far as charging is concerned, the Volkswagen ID.4 can be charged from a DC fast charging socket with up to 125 kW of power (such as those found in the Ionity network). In these, it is possible to recharge the battery with 77 kWh capacity in about 30 minutes.
