The sounds emitted by the Lotus Evija are inspired by the Type 49 of F1

The Lotus Evija is the first 100% electric model of the British brand and maybe that's why Lotus isn't leaving any details “to chance”.

Proof of this is the investment made in an area that is sometimes neglected when we talk about electric cars: the sound they will emit.

Now, to create the “soundtrack” for its first electric, Lotus teamed up with British musician Patrick Patrikios, who has already worked with names like Sia, Britney Spears, Pixie Lott or Olly Murs.

Car of the future inspired by the past

To create Evija's signature sound, Patrikios took a recording of the sound emitted by the mythical Formula 1 Lotus Type 49 and manipulated it digitally. When he did so, he realized that when the “note” emitted by the engine was slowed down, it produced a frequency similar to that created by the Lotus Evija's electrical mechanics.

Regarding this process, Patrikios said: "I tweaked the Type 49's replay speeds and digital filtering to create a sound signature for the Evija (…) We all wanted something that would awaken an emotional connection between the car and the driver."

Born in 1967, the Type 49 continues to influence the British brand.

To this he added: "We wanted something intrinsically linked to Lotus, so that we could define a sonic signature for future electric cars."

In addition to this sound signature, Patrick Patrikios was also responsible for creating the various sounds emitted by Evija: from the sound of the direction change indicators to the warning of the absence of a seat belt.
