We have to go back to 2002 to find the first Volkswagen R (from Racing), the unforgettable Golf R32. The symbolism about the R number 200 thousand is also a Golf. Between the first and the last Golf R, there are two less cylinders and 1200 cm3, but it gained a turbo and with 310 hp, it is 70 hp more powerful than the R32.
But the R range didn't stop with the Golf — there have already been four Golf Rs, and even convertibles and vans. In addition to the Golf, there was also the Passat R36, the Touareg R50 and, more recently, the Scirocco R. And it won't stop here, with the prediction, soon, of visiting the Tiguan R and the T-Roc R.
BRL 200 000
The 200K R is a Volkswagen Golf R, equipped with Akrapovič's Performance Pack and optional exhaust system. It comes equipped with the familiar 310 hp 2.0 TSI inline four cylinders — which will go up to 300 to become WLTP compliant starting in September — and when equipped with the seven-speed DSG gearbox, like the one delivered, it is capable of reaching 100 km/h in just 4.6s, thanks also to the 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
It was delivered in the UK to Keith Williamson, a long-time customer of the brand, and a particular Golf fan. In addition to the new and special Golf R, it has in its collection a Golf GTI MK6 and a Golf R32 MK5.
I couldn't wait to get my car and the fact that it's the Volkswagen R number 200,000 makes it particularly special. I've always liked Volkswagen Golf, the Performance range has always been about versatile and fun cars.
Volkswagen R
Volkswagen R started as Volkswagen Individual, having changed its name in 2011. It currently has 350 workers and according to its managers, R is synonymous with performance, sportiness and emotion.
