Jaguar I-Pace. 400 hp and 480 km of autonomy for Jaguar's first electric car

Anonim

With the Geneva Motor Show just a few days away, Jaguar finally unveiled its first 100% electric vehicle, the SUV I-Pace. Proposal that promises, according to the manufacturer, to assume the leadership of the revolution in electric vehicles, immediately; is that, although scheduled to be presented to the public at the Swiss show, the Jaguar I-Pace is already available for order, in the official network of the brand's dealers in Portugal.

As for the 100% electric SUV itself, Jaguar presents it as a “clean, easy to use and safe” proposal, with “the benefits of a sports car, the next generation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and space for five passengers” .

Jaguar I-Pace with 90 kWh battery and 480 km autonomy

Starting with the electric aspect, the Jaguar I-Pace announces a zero-emissions propulsion system supported by a latest generation lithium-ion battery of 90 kWh, composed of 432 cells, with which it manages to guarantee an autonomy of 480 km, in the cycle WLTP. The vehicle owner can recharge on a 100 kW direct current (DC) fast charger, up to 80%, in no more than 40 minutes. Or at home, using a 7 kW AC wall charger, which takes just over ten hours for the same charge level. Therefore, ideal for overnight charging.

In this chapter, emphasis is also given to the fact that the I-Pace has a set of technologies for intelligent autonomy optimization, which includes a battery pre-conditioning system. In other words, when plugged in, the I-Pace will automatically adjust the battery temperature to provide maximum autonomy.

From 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.8 s

As for performance, the two electric motors, one per axis, total 400 hp and 696 Nm , are combined with a concentric transmission, providing permanent traction to all four wheels, allowing the I-Pace to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in no more than 4.8 seconds.

The dedicated base for electric vehicles is new, in aluminum, with the batteries positioned in the center and between the two axles, guaranteeing a perfect distribution of weights of 50:50 and a center of gravity 130 mm lower than F-Pace. The suspension is composed of overlapping double wishbones and a multilink configuration on the rear axle, which can be pneumatic and with Adaptive Dynamic System.

Super sports car C-X75 inspired

Speaking of design, the I-Pace takes on unique proportions, with a short front, not hiding its inspiration from the super sports Jaguar C-X75, boasting lines that guarantee it a Cx of no more than 0.29. As a way of optimizing the balance between cooling and aerodynamics, the active louvers of the grill are opened when more cooling is needed.

Inside, a special attention to refinement and details using a new high quality fabric, called Kvadrat. Due to its peculiar architecture, without a front combustion engine, the cabin is characterized by an advanced position, offering an habitability comparable to that of a larger SUV.

Among the added benefits, an 890mm legroom in the rear seats, with the passenger in the rear in the middle benefiting from the absence of a transmission tunnel. The trunk is able to accommodate up to 656 liters, reaching 1453 liters, by folding the rear seats. There is also a central storage space with 10.5 liters of capacity.

Amazon Alexa is new

In the field of technology, a novelty is the debut of the new Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, a combination of two tactile screens, capacitive sensors and physical tactile controls, to which is added a new navigation system, capable of carrying out an autonomy calculation according to driving, even advising on the type of use we should make of the car, depending on the existing energy.

On the other hand, as a way to identify the driver's preferences and adjust the I-Pace parameters according to these preferences, a technology of “Intelligent Configuration” and the presence of Artificial Intelligence algorithms. With driver support also coming from the integration of the Amazon Alexa system, which, using Jaguar's InControl Remote application, manages to inform the driver, for example, if the vehicle is securely closed, what the battery level is or if there is Enough charge to get to work.
