Will the Mercedes-AMG GT R live up to the moniker “Green Beast”?

With a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 318 km/h, the Mercedes-AMG GT R doesn't leave much to be desired in terms of performance. However, as the true sports car that it is, the ultimate value remains to be announced, perhaps the most important: the time it takes to complete a lap of the dreaded Nürburgring.

According to sources close to the brand, within a few weeks we will finally know what the Mercedes-AMG GT R is worth in the “Green Inferno”, and it seems that AMG officials point to a time of 7 minutes and 20 seconds. At the wheel will be the experienced German Thomas Jaeger.

For Frank Emhardt, responsible for the development of the sports car, it is on track that the full glow of the Mercedes-AMG GT R is truly revealed, although he admits that this "is probably the most difficult test for any high performance sports car". Compared to the AMG GT S – which clocked 7m40s on the Nürburgring – the AMG GT R makes use of a reduction in weight and better aerodynamics, chassis and steering.
