The new Jaguar F-TYPE takes on a new level of access. The new four-cylinder Ingenium engine now equips the British sports car.

Just as Porsche did with the Cayman and Boxster, which gained the 718 designation and lost two cylinders in the process, the Jaguar F-TYPE is also equipped with a four-cylinder unit. The new engine in the Ingenium family has just two liters of capacity and a turbo, which allows for around 300 horsepower and 400 Nm.

The good news comes from the performance, which equals 5.7 seconds in the 0-100 km/h of the 3.0 340 horsepower V6 with manual gearbox. The smaller engine makes it the lighter F-TYPE. With the loss of ballast occurring mainly at the front, the feline's potential for agility was increased.

Lower consumption and emissions, at least officially, are also the order of the day. And in the Portuguese case, the price for accessing the F-TYPE is now 23 thousand euros lower than the 3.0 V6, reaching €68,323 in the case of the coupé.

The only point that causes doubts is the sound of this new mechanic. It's four cylinders against the six arranged in a V on other F-TYPEs. It may not make sense to discuss this point when talking about SUVs or family cars, but in a sports car, it is part of its essence.

Like the Porsche 718, the loss of sound of the naturally aspirated opposite six cylinders was lamented. Can the new Ingenium engine be captivated by the sound?
