Mitsubishi eX Concept: the 100% electric SUV

Mitsubishi will present the eX Concept, its first 100% electric and small SUV, at the Tokyo Motor Show. This model will join the city's i-MiEV and the Outlander PHEV, in Mitsubishi's list of «green proposals».

Although aesthetically similar to the Outlander and the XR-PHEV prototype, this SUV will bring with it the next generation of technologies and a new electrical system: two electric motors, distributed on each axle, which together deliver 190hp and a range of 400km whenever the batteries (charged wirelessly) are fully charged on their 45kWh lithium-ion batteries.

The S-AWC (Super All-Wheel Control) 4-wheel drive system offers three distinct driving modes: “automatic”, “gravel” and “snow”.

And as technological innovation is never enough, the Mitsubishi eX Concept is equipped with information systems that allow detecting contact between vehicles, between the vehicle and the road and between the vehicle and pedestrians, thus preventing accidents caused by objects and irregularities in the driver's route.

But the great uniqueness is perhaps the new Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control system: vehicles can now share information about the surrounding traffic and automatic parking with the driver outside the vehicle. Yes, you can see the eX Concept self-park while reading a newspaper on the garden bench…

We can say that the new electric combines the elegance and style of a “shooting break” with the compactness of the lines of a small SUV. The eX concept can even be seen as a preview of the transformation of the Japanese brand's Evolution range, which has been associated with the Lancer model, into an SUV.
