Armando Carneiro Gomes takes over leadership of Opel Portugal

Armando Carneiro Gomes was named ‘Country Manager’ for Opel Portugal. With a long career in management roles in various areas of the company, including abroad, Carneiro Gomes assumes responsibility for the Portuguese operation of Opel on February 1st.

Who is Armando Carneiro Gomes?

A member of GM Portugal's staff since 1991, Armando Carneiro Gomes has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Instituto Superior de Engenharia of Lisbon and a postgraduate degree in Executive Management from Universidade Católica. His professional career includes leadership roles in the areas of Materials, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering and Production. In 2001 he was appointed Director of Human Resources at GM Portugal. Between 2008 and 2010 he was Director of Iberian Human Resources for GM's commercial divisions (Opel and Chevrolet). In February 2010 he assumed the position of Commercial Director of Opel Portugal, which he has held to date. Carneiro Gomes is married and has five children.

Opel will adopt an organizational framework similar to the one that has been used successfully by Groupe PSA for several years. In this sense, both commercial operations in Portugal and Spain will strengthen ties in order to identify common processes that can be optimized and harmonized, especially in areas of 'back office' activity. Opel organizations in each country will remain independent and the operational structures will be included in an Iberian 'cluster'.
