The fifth generation Toyota Supra — codenamed A90 — officially called the Toyota GR Supra , can already be considered one of this year's releases.

If on the one hand it marks the return of a historic name for the coupés and GT, on the other it has also been accompanied by some controversy given the sharing of genes with the BMW Z4, with the two models having been developed in partnership.

Not wanting to miss the moment, Toyota will bring to the Geneva Motor Show not only the final production version — the first public presentation on the European continent — but also a competition prototype, the Toyota GR Supra GT4 Concept.

As the name implies, it is destined to compete in the GT4 class, established in 2006 and sanctioned by the FIA. It is one of the fastest growing classes, with national and regional competitions taking place in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania, aimed mainly at private teams, whether professional or amateur.

In its transformation into circuit machine, the GR Supra GT4 Concept stands out for its deeply revised aerodynamics, with the addition of a front diffuser and a large rear wing, elements built in composite materials from natural fibers such as hemp and linen, taking the place of traditional carbon fiber.

Also the 11″ x 18″ wheels are competition specific from OZ Racing. The suspension scheme of the standard GR Supra is maintained — MacPherson at the front, multilink at the rear — but the springs, dampers and stabilizer bars are also competition-specific. Braking is guaranteed by Brembo brakes.

Under the bonnet we find the same in-line six-cylinder block with a single turbocharger , but with its own wiring and electronic management — no final specifications have been announced at the moment.

The transmission is carried out through an automatic gearbox, which is also equipped with a specific transmission shaft and self-blocking differential.

As usual, the interior was stripped to make room for a roll cage and an OMP competition bacquet, in addition to being equipped with a fire extinguisher. The GR Supra GT4 Concept also features a competition-specific fuel tank and a quick refueling system.

Will it reach the circuits? The final development of the Toyota GR Supra GT4 Concept is dependent on the interest generated by potential customers.
