With about eight months of presence in the Chinese market and more than 81,000 units sold, the Jetta , the new Volkswagen Group brand, may be on its way to other markets.
With about 1% market share in China (“only” the biggest market in the world), last April Jetta managed to sell 13,500 units.
Well, it seems that Jetta's success in China is leading Volkswagen Group officials to consider launching the brand in other markets.
On this subject, Harald Mueller, the president of the brand that, for now, is exclusive to the Chinese market said: "The successful start aroused interest from other markets."
What markets?
For now, it is not yet guaranteed that Jetta will reach other markets, nor is it known which these would be if such a hypothesis were to be confirmed.Subscribe to our newsletter
However, markets such as Russia or Southeast Asia could be among those where Jetta could be present.
As for Western Europe, there is nothing to indicate that the brand will be able to arrive here. However, it would be interesting to see how the “Dacia of the Volkswagen Group” would behave in a market as demanding as the European one.
The Jetta range
In total, Jetta has three models, a sedan and two SUV. The sedan, designated VA3, is nothing more than the Chinese Volkswagen Jetta which, in turn, is a version of the Skoda Rapid and SEAT Toledo (4th generation) that we know around here.
At heart, the Jetta VA3 is a fourth-generation SEAT Toledo with a different look.
The smallest of the SUVs, the VS5, is a version of the SEAT Ateca with a different look and produced in China.
Finally, at the top of the range comes the Jetta VS7, a large SUV produced in China and based on the… SEAT Tarraco, although it presents itself with a distinct look, just like the VS5.
