Italdesign Zerouno Roadster. R8 and Huracán at the base of the Italian super sports car

Anonim

A project born from the drawing boards of one of the best known Italian ateliers, Italdesign, the Zerouno Roadster is the latest “surprise” prepared by the company originally founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro, although nowadays owned by the Volkswagen Group, for the 88th edition of the Geneva Motor Show.

The model, which is basically the convertible variant of the super sports car Zerouno Coupé made known in 2017, and which was the first product of Italdesign Automobili Speciali, is, however, based on the Audi R8, which in turn is a derivation of the used by Lamborghini Huracán, two supersports also “owned” by the Volkswagen Group.

Even though the first official photos of this Zerouno Roadster, now released, manage to make us forget about its Italian-German genes! Like the Coupé, the Roadster has strongly aggressive and incisive lines, in a body built entirely in carbon fiber. From the look of it, there doesn't seem to be any space to store the roof behind the passengers, so it could be some kind of panel stored in the front “luggage compartment”.

Designed for just two occupants and filled, in its "armor" with gills and slits, some of which (if not all!) with the function of ensuring better cooling, this Zerouno Roadster also has a rear with other details, such as a huge and protruding blade, integrating four thin exhaust tips in the center.

Italdesign Zerouno Roadster brings V10 from R8 and Hurácan

On the technical side, this new supercar from Italdesign shares the engine with the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Hurácan. That is, the same V10 of 5.2 liters, and which advertises a power of 610 hp and a maximum torque of 560 Nm. In the Coupé, these same numbers allow the Italian car to go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, as well as reach an advertised top speed of 330 km/h, values that should not differ much for the Roadster.

Only five units

The Italdesign Zerouno Roadster, like the Coupé, will also have a production limited to just five units. If each unit of the Coupé, with a price of around 1.3 million euros, had no difficulty in finding a buyer, we imagine that the 1.9 million euros for each unit of the Roadster will also quickly find an owner.

Italdesign: 50 years thinking about the next 50

Finally, just remember that Italdesign has planned to celebrate, also at the Geneva Motor Show, its 50th anniversary, namely by promoting an initiative that it named “The Future of Mobility in Cities”, and which invites young people designers aged between 18 and 35, creating concepts based on what they believe the company can become in 50 years.

The winners of the challenge will receive, as already announced by Italdesign, a monetary prize of 40 thousand euros.
