The patrol actions are divided into two phases, where the first phase of the operation is oriented towards the routes used by pilgrims on their way to Fátima. As a precaution, the GNR advises pilgrims to prepare the trip well in advance, plan the places to stop (meals/sleeps/rest), walk in a “small line” and signal the beginning and end of the group, always walk on the opposite side of the road, do not walk in in places where pedestrians are prohibited, always wear reflective vests, day or night, and take special care when crossing roads.

The second phase of Operation Safe Pilgrimage Operation will focus on the city of Fátima, where the main patrolling zones will be in the sanctuary and the surrounding area.
