Operation “Speed ​​Control” starts today throughout the national territory. From the 17th to the 23rd of August, speed control actions will be intensified.

The most controlled lanes in the country will be, according to the GNR in an official statement, those where "speeding offenses are more frequent and give rise to an increased risk of road accidents, namely on highways and on lanes located within the places." The control will be carried out using fixed and mobile radars, in a total of 600 speed control operations.

The operation is promoted by the TISPOL (European Traffic Police Network) and will involve around 1200 soldiers from all territorial commands and the National Transit Unit. According to the GNR, "this operation, which aims to combat the scourge of road accidents associated with speeding, will be carried out in the same way in all European countries and within the framework of the operations planning defined by TISPOL, the body that brings together all the police forces of transit of Europe, in which the GNR is the national representative.”

The GNR also reveals that “since the beginning of 2015 and until the 16th of August, 5,733,295 drivers were checked, of which 118 822 were speeding”. It is planned to carry out other operations during this year, whose main objective is to reduce road accidents.
