6 drivers caught illegally racing on the A2

The drivers were intercepted during an illegal race this morning, between the Fogueteiro and Almada junction, on the A2. The GNR cut the highway for safety reasons in the south/north direction, between Fogueteiro and Almada, at 3 am.

After intercepting the drivers, two tried to reverse gears and flee, but without success. According to the Head of Operations and Public Relations of the GNR's Territorial Command of Setúbal, “in the context of combating illegal racing, known as 'street racing', we detected individuals in excess of speed and set up an operation with various means. One of the vehicles was controlled at 243 kilometers per hour”.

One of the drivers had a license for less than 3 years, the six drivers are aged up to 30 years. 21 administrative offenses, 6 for speeding and 2 for reversing on the highway were filed.

Several uncharacterized GNR vehicles were involved and two radars were used, a fixed-mounted tripod and a pursuit radar.
