Originally slated for release on May 22, the GMC Hummer EV saw the Covid-19 pandemic force its unveiling to be postponed.
Thus, at a time when we were supposed to know the reincarnation of the iconic Hummer, we still have to settle for a few more teaser teasers.
Still, this time GMC — the Hummer is not returning as a brand, but as a model, now bearing the GMC symbol — decided to reveal a little more of its new model and there are some details that stand out.
"Pro-environment" Hummer
The biggest new feature of the Hummer for the 21st century is the fact that it is… 100% electric, as the acronym EV already suggested. It couldn't be further from the Hummer we knew, considered a symbol of “everything that was wrong in the world”, at a time when the debate on climate change and anti-SUV movements was reaching media heights.

Now, in his return, even the giant Hummer had to adapt to the new times, appearing as a huge 100% electric super-SUV… or rather, as an electric “Super Truck”, according to what we see in the video. To corroborate this definition, and despite the final technical data relating to the new Hummer EV remain in the “secret of the gods”, some of the specifications were advanced.
According to GMC, the new Hummer EV will be able to support batteries with capacities between 50 and 200 kWh . The potency will amount to about… 1000 hp (!) and the torque (at wheel) should be close to 15 000 Nm.
All of this should allow the model, which is planned to be launched in the fall of 2021, meet 0 to 96 km/h (60 mph) in just 3s — a Hummer capable of shouldering supersports?
Finally, still in the field of news about the new GMC Hummer EV, we learned that this will be one of 22 models that in 2023 will feature the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system — already available on some Cadillacs — and that it will be possible to recharge it in chargers with up to 350 kW of power.
