Originally named after Mean Mower , or “Corta-Relva Malvado”, in a free translation in Portuguese, the lawnmower created by Honda, specifically with the objective of overthrowing the speed record for this type of proposals — yes, it's really true… —, yes, so , back, in what is its latest version.
Entitled of Mean Mower V2 , this second generation of the “poisonous” work vehicle was, moreover, developed by the same team that gave rise to the original model: Team Dynamics. Which, in addition to being one of Honda's partners in the British Touring Championship, was also the creator of the lawnmower that originally set the world record, beaten a year later (2015) by a Norwegian team, with a lawnmower equipped with a… V8 block, reaching 215 km/h.
With the Mean Mower V2, the goal is now to reach 150 mph, or 241 km/h of top speed. Something made possible by the advances made in the initial design, which raised this new version to a level never reached, thanks to the support of technologies such as CAD (computer aided design), more made-to-measure components, more advanced materials and parts made using printing 3D. Without forgetting the fact that the engine, a 999 cm3 four-cylinder, imported from a Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP , debit, now, almost twice the power of the previous one: 192 hp, at 13 000 rpm, weighing not more than 69.1 kg when dry.
For the rest and in addition to the engine, the six-speed gearbox, the clutch, the electronic engine management system and the color LCD screen were also removed from the Fireblade. While the braking system, with four-piston calipers at the front and six at the rear, as well as the 10” Goldspeed wheels, with Hoosier tires created specifically for this Mean Mower V2, are specific for this “lawnmower”.
Finally, despite all these changes, the guarantee that Honda's new racing lawnmower not only maintains the appearance of a real lawnmower, more specifically that of the HF 2622 model, as well as all the devices needed to do what this type of equipment is required to do: mow the lawn.
At the wheel of the Mean Mower V2, in an attempt to overthrow the speed record for lawnmowers, will be the still young but already very experienced 23-year-old driver Jess Hawkins, who is currently working as a stuntman on the show.
