These are the first Volvo XC40 teasers

After the launch of the new generation of Volvo XC60, the Swedish brand is preparing to complete its SUV range with a new model: the compact XC40.

As has long been known, this will be the brand's first model to use the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) platform, intended for smaller models from Volvo, Lynk & Co and Geely. One of the advantages of this platform is the fact that it is already able to integrate hybrid versions and up to 100% electric in production models.

Taking into account Volvo's recent electrification plan, it is certain that, in addition to the usual four-cylinder blocks and the introduction of new three-cylinder blocks, the Volvo XC40 will be available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

In the aesthetic chapter the 40.1 concept presented last year (highlighted image) gives us some hints of the final look of the future XC40. The first teaser reveals little or nothing about the car's appearance, but it gives us one certainty: in addition to being the smallest in the range, the XC40 will be Volvo's most “creative and distinctive” model.

While no drastic changes from Volvo's current design language are to be expected, the new model will be the most customizable. In addition to a more vibrant color palette, both for the bodywork and the passenger compartment, Volvo will offer more options when it comes to finishes, with new materials (below).

When it is launched, who knows this year, the Volvo XC40 will have as its main competitors the German premium proposals, such as the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1. As for the submission date, Volvo guarantees that “it's coming soon”. We wait…
