Confirmed. Alfa Romeo Mito disappears in 2019 without leaving successor

Anonim

Small sporty SUV, designed to compete in the hyper-competitive B-segment, the Alfa Romeo MiTo lives today in agony. It's already 10 years of career, needing a deep update, and far from its golden age in the first three years of commercialization.

First made known in 2008, the Italian model is now preparing to say goodbye, without any foreseen successor; on the contrary, Arese's brand strategy is, yes, to let the model die, taking advantage of the vacant slot on the assembly line to give birth to one of the two already promised new SUVs. In this case, the proposal with the smallest dimensions, aimed at the C segment!

Customers prefer five-door models

Confirmation of the disappearance of the MiTo has already been given to British Autocar, by the head of Alfa Romeo for the EMEA region, Roberta Zerbi, who “scheduled” the end of the model for the beginning of 2019. Explaining that “the MiTo is a three-door pure, while people are increasingly opting for the five doors”.

As for successors, the Italian responsible confirms that the solution will not be a direct heir, but something different: a small SUV or crossover.

This new proposal will allow us to reach not only a wider and younger clientele, in the 30-40 age group, but also those who, in recent years, have purchased MiTo. And who, in the meantime, got older, got married, had children and needed a bigger car

At the same time, with this new model, Alfa Romeo should be able to “fill the gap between the Giulietta and the Stelvio”, boasting an aesthetic that, while not pretending to be a kind of smaller Stelvio, will seek to contribute to the affirmation of a new “family” of automobiles.

More news on the way

Remember that Alfa Romeo presented, last June, with Sergio Marchionne at the controls, its strategy for the next five years. Which includes the launch of two new SUVs, the recovery of the top-of-the-range 8C sports model, as well as a four-seater coupé, which will also revive the acronym GTV.
