The Internet of Things (IoT) is expected to become as common as smartphones are today. In other words, everything will be connected to the net – from the toaster and the fridge to the house and the car.

It is in this context that the Renault Symbioz emerges, which in addition to demonstrating the French brand's technologies in electric mobility and autonomous vehicles, transforms the car into an extension of the home.

But first, the mobile part itself. The Renault Symbioz is a generously sized hatchback: 4.7 m long, 1.98 m wide and 1.38 m high. Electric, it has two motors – one for each rear wheel. And they don't lack strength – there are 680 hp and 660 Nm of torque! The 72 kWh battery pack allows a range of 500 km.

Although autonomous, it can be driven in three distinct modes: Classic which reflects the driving of current cars; Dynamic that changes not only driving characteristics but also seat positioning for a hot hatch-like experience; and AD which is autonomous mode, retracting steering wheel and pedals.

The way we use our cars is changing. Today, the car is just a means of moving from point A to point B. With a concentration of technologies, the car can become an interactive and personalized space (...).

Could the car be a room in the house?

The Renault Symbioz was presented together with a house – for real… -, to demonstrate its symbiotic relationship with our home. An industry first for sure. This model connects to the house via a wireless network and when parked it can even serve as an extra room.

The Renault Symbioz shares the same network with the house, governed by an artificial intelligence, capable of anticipating needs. The Renault Symbioz can also help to suppress the energy needs of the home, in times of peak consumption; can control lighting and appliances; and even when there is a power cut, the Symbioz can continue to supply power to the home, which can be tracked and regulated via the dashboard or on a screen in the home.

The possibilities are almost limitless. And as we can see, the Renault Symbioz can even be driven into the house, and serve as an extra room.
