No, it's not the new BMW M5 Touring. Unfortunately, the sportier variant of the German van has been sidelined by the Munich brand and should continue to do so. But it's not all bad news.
The new BMW 5 Series Touring (G31) has just won the version M550d xDrive , with the signature of M Performance, this after the sports division of the German brand has previously dedicated itself to an aesthetic and mechanical package. The M550d xDrive is available for both the Touring variant and the three-volume model. The numbers are not misleading: they are 400 hp of power at 4400 rpm and a maximum torque of 760 Nm, constant between 2000 and 3000 rpm , extracted from the new diesel engine with a capacity of 3.0 liters and four turbos.
In addition to the increase in power, BMW claims a reduction in consumption of around 11%, announcing figures of 5.9 l/100 km for the saloon and 6.2 l/100 km for the van. This engine, coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission, replaces the previous 3.0 liter inline six-cylinder tri-turbo block (381 hp and 740 Nm).
The gain of 19hp and 20Nm is naturally reflected in performance. The BMW M550d xDrive Touring takes 4.4 seconds in traditional 0-100 km/h acceleration (4.6 seconds in the Touring variant), 0.3 seconds faster than the previous generation and just a tenth of a second slower than the M5 (F10). The maximum speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.
Compared to the standard model, the BMW M550d xDrive adds a new adaptive suspension with dynamic damping control and the integral active steering system (rear wheels also turn).
It also comes with specific aesthetic details, such as the leather-lined interior and the M550d inscriptions, in addition to the ground clearance having been reduced by 10 mm.
