Volkswagen Gasoline Engines Will Have Particle Filter

Everything indicates that the usual particulate filter will no longer be a system exclusive to diesel engines.

After Mercedes-Benz, the first brand to announce the introduction of particle filters in gasoline engines, it was Volkswagen's turn to reveal its intention to adopt this system. Briefly, the particle filter incinerates the harmful particles resulting from combustion, using a filter made of ceramic material inserted in the exhaust circuit. The introduction of this system in the brand's gasoline engines will be gradual.

If in the case of Mercedes-Benz, the first engine to debut this solution is the 220 d (OM 654) of the recently launched Mercedes-Benz E-Class, in the case of Volkswagen, the particulate filter will be inserted in the 1.4 TSI block of the new Volkswagen Tiguan and the 2.0 TFSI engine present in the new Audi A5.

With this change, the Wolfsburg brand hopes to reduce the emission of fine particles in gasoline engines by 90%, in order to comply with the Euro 6c standards, which will come into force in September of next year.
