New Land Rover Defender in 2018

Leaving the farm machinery past behind, the new Land Rover Defender will embrace modernity.

The British press says that the successor to the Land Rover Defender should hit the market in 2018, the year in which the mythical all-British terrain celebrates exactly 70 years. Purists will be disappointed to learn that the new Defender will not follow the current model line.

It will be the most competent Land Rover ever off-road, but the spartan interior and exterior lines that characterize it will not be present. Rather, it will be a kind of Range Rover Evoque with a more punk look. It can take up to four different bodies: short 2-door version; 2-door and hard-top short version; 4-door long version; long version with 4 pick-up doors.

As far as powertrains are concerned, the new Land Rover Defender will use the latest Ingenium powertrains, shared with Jaguar. The same publication also states that Land Rover is working on a Terrain Response system exclusive to this version. Note: in the images appears the Land Rover DC100 Concept, indicated as one of the concepts that is inspiring the design of the new Land Rover Defender.
