The 2016 edition of the Techno Classica, in the German city of Essen, takes place from April 6th to 10th.
To celebrate the classics of the Ingolstadt brand, the Audi Tradition division will promote this year a series of activities at more than 20 events around the world. The first will be the Techno Classica, which annually hosts some of the rarest and most exciting classics in the automotive industry. As such, Audi decided to bring three of the brand's most promising prototypes to the city of Essen, namely:Audi Quattro RS002:
Developed specifically for the 1987 World Rally Championship, the Audi Quattro RS002 rests on a tubular steel frame and is clad in a plastic body. Due to the extinction of Group B, the Group S (even more powerful versions of the Group B cars) did not get to compete. That's when Audi suspended its competition program at the World Rally Championship. Until today…
Audi Quattro Spyder:
The 1991 edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show was the stage for the presentation of the Audi Quattro Spyder, a sports car with coupé architecture and a look that gave the intender that it was ready for production. In addition to a 171 hp 2.8 liter V6 engine, all-wheel drive system and a 5-speed manual gearbox, the German sports car weighed just 1,100 kg thanks to an aluminum body.
Despite having, in theory, all the ingredients to become a reference sports car, the Audi Quattro Spyder never made it to the production lines.
Audi Avus Quattro:
A month after the presentation of the Quattro Spyder, the Avus Quattro was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, which, like the previous model, stood out for its aluminum bodywork but with an even more aggressive design. At the time, the German brand wanted to adopt a 6.0 liter W12 block and 502 hp, but the 12-cylinder engines at Audi only arrived on the market ten years later with the Audi A8.
