Eleven years later, history repeats itself: the new Volkswagen Golf was named International Car of the Year 2013.

The news came on the eve of the opening of the Geneva Motor Show, and after being named by the Portuguese as the car of the year, it is Europe's turn to give due recognition to the «best seller» of the German manufacturer. The Volkswagen Golf got 414 votes, more than double the votes that the Toyota GT-86/Subaru BRZ got (202 votes) If you remember, both the Volkswagen Golf and the Toyota GT-86 were considered by us as one of the five best cars 2012 (you can see the rest of the list here).

This is not the first time that the model takes this award home. In 1992, the small German family member (then the MK III) was also named International Car of the Year.

The 58 members of the jury, representing 22 European countries, thus ordered the following classification for 2013:

1. Volkswagen Golf: 414 votes

2. Toyota GT86: 202 votes

3. Volvo V40: 189 votes

4. Ford B-Max: 148 votes

5. Mercedes Class A: 138 votes

6. Renault Clio: 128 votes

7. Peugeot 208: 120 votes

8. Hyundai i30: 111 votes
