Volkswagen CrossBlue: The seven-seater «Golf»

Anonim

The German brand presents its proposal for a medium SUV for the North American market, called CrossBlue.

Selling Volkswagen's Golf's to American consumers may seem like nonsense. And in fact it is, but thanks to the MQB «multipurpose» platform, in practice it is no longer so. By the way, that's exactly what Volkswagen is going to try to do with the CrossBlue: a stretched Golf presented today at the Detroit salon.

An SUV designed exclusively for the North American market and that is halfway between a Touareg and a Tiguan (despite being bigger than the first). And as I said, it shares the same platform as Golf & Cia.

In practice, CrossBlue is a very "American way" interpretation of what a Golf should be if it had been designed for the United States. Interior space, seven seats, good ground clearance and enough size not to look like an ant in the desert, that is: a small car in the middle of huge pick-up trucks. And that's exactly what CrossBlue intends to be, an American Golf. Even in sales…

Volkswagen is committed to increasing the number of units sold on the other side of the Atlantic. And honestly – given the taste of «Uncle Sam's” clientele, I can't think of a better way to do it. Also because looking at the concept-car, I dare say that CrossBlue was quite capable of taking revenge here on the old continent… who knows.
