Nissan IDS concept unveiled

After last week's sneak peak, Nissan unveils the IDS concept. A model that will have to share the lights at the Nissan stand with another very special concept...

According to Nissan, this concept will be the "inspired muse" of the second generation of the Nissan Leaf. A model that appears at the Tokyo Motor Show dressed to impress with four modular seats, 100% electric powertrain and 100% carbon fiber bodywork. This study is intended to be a showcase of Nissan's vision for the car in the not-too-distant future – a bit like another prototype presented by Mercedes-Benz at the same event.

In addition to the design, one of the features highlighted in the IDS concept is the Nissan Intelligent Driving, a system that should equip the brand's models as early as 2020. This autonomous driving system has two distinct driving modes: manual mode or pilot mode. If the first is on, the driver has full control of the vehicle through a steering wheel inspired by the reins of a horse. When pilot mode is off, the steering wheel is replaced by a multimedia screen, the four seats swivel slightly, and the cabin becomes a living room.

On the outside, the bodywork favors aerodynamics, with an emphasis on the thin profile of the tires (size 175), designed to reduce aerodynamic resistance and rolling friction. In terms of aesthetics, the front grille resembles ice cubes that match the silver color of the IDS concept, while the rear spoiler and boomerang-shaped taillights give it a more imposing and sporty look. The electric motor is powered by a 60 kWh battery, the autonomy not being known for the time being.
