After ending 2017 with a total of six million cars manufactured, Volkswagen has one more reason to celebrate: of these six million, only one million were Golf units. Adding up all production since 1974, we reach 34 million units produced.
Golf thus consolidates its bestseller status. Not only for Volkswagen, but for the market itself — largely to blame for the 34 million hatchback units, Variant, Cabrio and Sportsvan, already manufactured.
“The Golf hatchback continues to be a market leader in its segment, both in Germany and in Europe. The van, on the other hand, registered the greatest growth within the Golf family, with an increase of 11% compared to the previous year”
Golf is a reference, Tiguan and Touran follow behind
However, if the Golf is a reference worldwide, the truth is that, in terms of growth, it was the Tiguan that grew the most considering all VW proposals. With the Tiguan ending 2017 with an increase in sales of 40% compared to 2016, synonymous with a total of 730 thousand units manufactured. Most orders came from China.
Among MPVs, Touran continues to be the segment leader in the domestic market, Germany, also maintaining a good level of popularity in other European markets. Aspect confirmed, in fact, in the nearly 150 thousand units that Volkswagen sold, in 2017 alone.
Given these numbers, expectations increase as to what will have been the final results of the Volkswagen Group. When they are presented, we will find out whether the German manufacturer will continue to be number one in the world, or if, on the contrary, it will be overtaken by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. The Franco-Japanese alliance emerged at the front of the count after the first half of the year.
