Hyundai reaches the milestone of four decades of export with more than 23 million vehicles.

40 years have passed since the launch of the Hyundai Pony (above), the first model of the South Korean brand to be exported to international markets – specifically to South America.

Hyundai currently exports from its factories in South Korea more than 1.15 million vehicles per year to 184 countries around the world, which equates to 3,150 vehicles per day.

This milestone was celebrated at an event in Guayaquil, Ecuador, Hyundai's first export destination. Zaayong Koo, vice president of the brand, highlighted the sustainable growth of the brand since 1976. “Since we started exporting 40 years ago, Hyundai has become one of the biggest and fastest growing brands in the world,” he says.

In order to reflect its history, Hyundai also presented a range of 26 vehicles – between classics and current models – which includes two original Pony, the current Tucson and Santa Fe and the Ioniq in hybrid, electric and plug-in versions.
