NIO EP9. The fastest tram on the Nürburgring

Anonim

Trams are getting better and faster, but they're still not enough for the "old" gasoline-powered supercars.

In October 2016, NIO announced that its electric supercar, the EP9, had broken the Nürburgring record for electric cars. He managed a time of just 7:05 minutes – 15 seconds less than the previous record. Still, a far cry from the records achieved by the best internal combustion cars – see here.

Almost six months later, here is the video:

Thanks to two powerful electric motors, the NIO EP9 develops 1,360 hp of power. These engines (one at the rear and one at the front) are coupled to two electronically synchronized gearboxes (one for each engine). The result of this electron-powered marriage translates to 312 km/h of top speed and just 2.7 seconds from 0-100 km/h.

Looking at the video and the pilot's expression, it even seems easy to do a 7-minute lap of green hell in a tram. It seems… but it shouldn't be.
