The fourth generation of the Audi A8 has once again marked Audi's annual conference. The German model may reach European markets this year.

More than 8 years have passed since the current Audi A8 was introduced, and as such, the German model is soon to be renewed.

The new generation (4th) has already been prepared in Ingolstadt for several years and the presentation date has already been revealed. Speaking at the brand's annual press conference, Audi President Rupert Stadler revealed that the new Audi A8 will be unveiled at the Audi Summit in Barcelona on 11 July.

Autonomous driving technologies? Yes, but not yet.

If there were any doubts, the Audi A8 will continue to be the technological standard bearer of the German brand, starting with the debut of the second generation of the Audi Virtual Cockpit system.

One of Audi's top-of-the-range assets will also be driving support systems. After ambitious declarations last year – “the A8 will be the brand's first model to drive fully autonomously up to 60km/h” – Rupert Stadler remains confident that the new model will have the most advanced autonomous driving system ever in the brand. “Once legislation allowing autonomous driving on the highways is passed in our main markets, we will offer this technology in the Audi A8,” he says.

As for the design, expect something inspired by the Audi Prologue Concept (featured). The vision of Marc Lichte, the brand's design director, is finally applied to a production model. The Audi A8 debuts Audi's new visual language, which will be followed by the successors of the current A6 and A7.

The new generation of the Audi A8 will be present at the Frankfurt Motor Show, before reaching the European markets, predictably later this year.
