Bloomberg reported some time ago that the Volkswagen was planning an electric model that would cost $21,000 (about 18,000 euros) “to stand up to Tesla“. However, from what was already known about the I.D. no model seemed to be able to meet this low-price requirement.

Now, Volkswagen vice president for North America, Matt Renna, came forward, on the sidelines of the Los Angeles Motor Show, with more information about this model.

Speaking to Insideevs, Matt Renna explained that after all, the model that is making people talk will not be more than a successor to the Volkswagen e-Up!. According to the Volkswagen executive, the brand will increase the battery capacity used by the current e-Up!, allowing it to achieve greater autonomy.

After all, the €18 000 electric Volkswagen will not belong to the I.D.

The current Volkswagen e-Up! it delivers 82 hp and has a battery capacity of 18.7 kWh, which allows it to have a range of around 160 km. Any autonomy increase is welcome, let's wait and see!

Will it really cost 18 thousand euros? It will be difficult for this to be the final price in Portugal, but a very competitive price is promised.
