The results of car sales in 2017 are already out and, in general, this is good news. Despite a sharp drop in December, the European market grew by 3.4% compared to the same period in 2016.
What are the 2017 winners and losers?
Below is the table of the 10 best sellers in the European market during 2017.
Position (in 2016) | Model | Sales (variation compared to 2016) |
---|---|---|
1 (1) | Volkswagen Golf | 546 250 (-3.4%) |
2 (3) | Renault Clio | 369 874 (6.7%) |
3 (2) | Volkswagen Polo | 352 858 (-10%) |
4 (7) | Nissan Qashqai | 292 375 (6.1%) |
5 (4) | Ford Fiesta | 269 178 (-13.5%) |
6 (8) | Skoda Octavia | 267 770 (-0.7%) |
7 (14) | Volkswagen Tiguan | 267 669 (34.9%) |
8 (10) | Ford Focus | 253 609 (8.0%) |
9 (9) | Peugeot 208 | 250 921 (-3.1%) |
10 (5) | Opel Astra | 243 442 (-13.3%) |
Despite the drop in sales, the Volkswagen Golf remains number one on the chart, seemingly unfazed. The Renault Clio rises one place, swapping with the Volkswagen Polo, which was affected by the transition to the new generation.
Another Volkswagen, the Tiguan, also stands out, reaching the Top 10, with an impressive rise of 34.9%, being the first real threat to the Nissan Qashqai's dominance in compact SUVs. The biggest drop in the positions in the table was led by the Opel Astra, which dropped five places, being one step away from being in the 10 best sellers.
