Caterham wants to launch a "more practical" sports car for everyday use

Front engine, rear wheel drive and a coupe body are the ingredients of Caterham's sporty future. Is this a recipe for success?

Who remembers the C120 Concept? This sports car resulted from the joint work between Alpine and Caterham in 2014, as you can see in the images, but for financial reasons it never made it to mass production. Now, almost three years later, it seems that the boss of British brand Graham MacDonald wants to gather the conditions to revive the project.

And what conditions are these? In an interview with Autocar, Graham MacDonald admits that at the moment Caterham does not have the financial availability to "throw headlong" in an investment of this nature. “The best thing we have to do is bet on a joint venture, and we are available to sit down and talk to any brand”, guarantees Graham MacDonald.

Caterham currently uses original Ford engines, but Graham MacDonald guarantees that the sporting future will have an atmospheric engine. “As much as we want to respect our past, we have to think about the future, and it's important to bet on the right engine for our customers. It has to have Caterham's DNA,” he says.
