The range of jeeps of the German brand was renewed and now has two new models: AMG Edition 463 and G 500 4×4².

Mercedes-Benz announced the new prices of the G-Class as well as several improvements in a model that already has 35 years of history. All G-Class models now offer around 16% more power as well as 17% less fuel consumption.

The new 8-cylinder engine of the G 500 is based on the new generation of V8 engines developed by Mercedes-AMG, which have already shown exceptional levels of performance in the Mercedes-AMG GT and Mercedes-AMG C 63 models. Class G, the V8 was subject to some modifications, producing an output of 310 kW (422 hp) and a torque of 610 Nm.

The engines of the remaining G-Class versions were also improved. The G 350 d benefits from an increase in power from 155 kW (211 hp) to 180 kW (245 hp), accompanied by an increase in torque from 540 to 600 Nm. The G 350 d now accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 .8 seconds instead of the previous 9.1 seconds. Combined NEDC consumption has decreased from 11.2 liters/100 km to 9.9 l/100 km. For its part, the AMG G 63 now delivers a power of 420 kW (571 hp), higher than the previous 400 kW (544 hp), with a torque of 760 Nm.

The standard suspension configuration has been modified, with optimized shock absorbers for better body control and superior on-road driving comfort. An adapted ESP configuration improves driving dynamics, resulting in greater driving stability and safety. The optimizations of the ASR and ABS result in better traction control and a reduction in the braking distance. The load capacity of the front axle has been increased by 100 kg to 1550 kg.

Additionally, on the G 500 it is available as an option from the new adaptive damping system with Sport and Comfort modes. This system allows for more dynamic on-road performance in Sport mode, without reducing the off-road performance capability, while at the same time reducing the cornering behavior typical of an SUV.

Already familiar from the AMG versions, the 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic gearbox on the G 350 d and G 500 models is now equipped with a manual transmission mode. This mode, which can be easily activated by pressing the “M” button, allows the driver to take advantage of the high torque available and use the shift paddles on the steering wheel, deciding when a gear change should take place.

Interior and exterior improvement

Visually, the new G 350 d and G 500 models are particularly easy to identify due to their redesigned bumpers and fender extensions, now fitted as standard, in body colour. The G 350 d now also comes standard with five-spoke, 18 in. (45.7 cm) alloy wheels.

Inside, the G 350 d and G 500 models are equipped with an attractive instrument panel in the shape of two rings, with a 11.4 cm multifunction screen and redesigned hands and instruments. The instrument panel of the two AMG models was also redesigned.

New special model AMG EDITION 463: visible dynamics

With the new special model EDITION 463, Mercedes-AMG gives the G 63 and G 65 an impressive sporty look. The high-class interior includes a two-tone instrument panel, high-quality two-tone designo leather seats with carbon faux leather side pockets with contrasting stitching, seats and door center panels with diamond-textured carbon fiber upholstery, and nappa leather upholstered door handles.

On the outside, a stainless steel underbody protection, AMG sport stickers on the sides and black aluminum protection strips highlight the special model's dynamics and exclusivity. The G 63 model is equipped with 295/40 R 21 tires, mounted on unique 5-dual-spoke, 21-inch (53.3 cm) alloy wheels with a matte black finish and spokes with a high-gloss finish. The G 65 model boasts a classy look with equal-sized 5-double-spoke alloy wheels with ceramic polishing.

Start of production of the Mercedes-Benz G 500 4×42

After proving to be extremely popular with potential customers, the G 500 4×42 prototype will be produced for sale. The technological package consists of a drivetrain with all-wheel drive, including off-center axles and the new 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, with a power of 310 kW (422 hp).

The G 500 4×42 will be available for order from Mercedes-Benz dealers from December 2015. The remaining G-Class models are already available for order.
