Detroit awaits the introduction of what is said to be one of the most powerful family members in the world, the new Maserati Quattroporte

After making a preview of the next Quattroporte, the numbers that everyone had been waiting for arrived. Under the Italian bonnet of this Maserati we will be able to find at least two interesting configurations.

Underpinning this Maserati Quattroporte will be a Chrysler V6 Pentastar bi-turbo engine. This engine, introduced in 2009 at the New York Motor Show, equips the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Lancia brands. It is not the first time that this engine is mentioned here at RazãoAutomóvel – in 2011, it was considered one of the 10 best engines of the year by Ward’s Auto.

The V6 block will produce 404hp at 5500 rpm and will have a maximum torque of 505nm at 1750 rpm. In measurements, very interesting performances are expected for an entry model – 0 to 100 in 5.1 seconds and a top speed of 285km/h.

For the fullest wallets and right feet eager to press hard on the accelerator, Maserati offers another solution – a 3.8 bi-turbo V8, with 523hp at 6500rpm and 710nm of maximum torque with overboost at 2000rpm. For those who venture into this configuration, there is a guarantee that the sprint from 0-100 will be completed in 4.7 seconds and that the Quattroporte will take its passengers beyond 300 km/h (307km/h announced).

Both engines will, as we have already announced, be produced by Ferrari. The gearbox will be 8-speed automatic and will manage to be lighter than the existing 6-speed. Component weight reductions and increased use of aluminum will allow this new Maserati Quattroporte to be 100kg lighter than the current one.

Two Engines, Two Personalities

The choice between one or the other engine will be more than power and numbers, a truly bipolar behavior is expected, typical of this model and now accentuated.

The V6 engine

For the first time, the V6 model will have the possibility of being fitted with an all-wheel drive system – it appeals to a safer and less playful consumer, who likes to go fast but values safety. This one wears glasses, “licked” striped hair, and a tight-fitting shirt. Behind goes the son who, in the same style, says: “The father has a very powerful car, so I get to school on time”.

The V8 engine

Models equipped with the V8 engine are for purists. All-wheel drive can be very smart, but here it has no place – in the case of loss of traction there is no transfer of power to the front wheels, here, everything happens in the rear wheels and what you want are good “crossovers”. This is a model for the coolest parent who will say to the child following: “See that roundabout? Now look at your mother's face.”

Whether you're a fan of the V8 or the “modest” V6 one thing is guaranteed: this Maserati Quattroporte is a pump of style and power to come!
