For the 10th generation Civic, Honda announced the introduction of new VTEC Turbo engines in Europe.

Honda announced the introduction in Europe of two new low-displacement gasoline turbo engines. The 1 liter and 1.5 liter VTEC Turbo engines will be part of the range of engines that will equip the 10th generation of the Civic, scheduled to be introduced in early 2017. These new engines will belong to the growing range of Honda engines called Earth Dreams. The promise is above-average performance and power, combined with low consumption and good environmental performance.

The first new engine, a 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo unit, was launched this year to power the current Civic Type R and produces 310 hp and does just 5.7 sec. from 0 to 100 km/h.

Based on a completely new architecture and using the latest turbo systems, this new unit is equipped with variable valve control technology to reduce friction and obtain the best performance, both in terms of power and environmental benefits. The new engines use turbochargers, with a low moment of inertia and high response capabilities, and use direct fuel injection technology to achieve a good balance between high power and high torque, more than in conventional normally aspirated engines.

The new Civic is scheduled to arrive in Europe in early 2017, after being unveiled at the Frankfurt International Motor Show in September of the previous year. The 5-door versions will be produced exclusively at the Honda of the UK (HUM) factory in Swindon, UK. Honda has already confirmed an investment of 270 million euros in new technologies and production processes in preparation for the new model.
