Cold Start. Do you still know the meaning of the acronym FIRE?

FIRE, or in full: Fully Integrated Robotized Engine. It was the acronym that Fiat used to identify its first family of engines built using a production line made up of robots – hence the name “Robotised Engine”.

A significant technological advance for the time. It was 1985 and Fiat needed to replace the “old” 100 series engines.

The first generation of the FIRE engine had versions with displacements between 769 cm 3 and the 1368 cm 3 , all with 8 valves — two valves per cylinder.

In the 80s and 90s, it was recurrent to see this designation on the models of the Italian house. Particularly in the late Fiat Uno or Fiat Panda, models that were the first car for many young people.

Fortunately the FIRE engine, in its most diverse versions, could withstand everything… or almost everything!

Although the FIRE name has disappeared from the bodies of the Italian house models, the concept is still very much alive. Currently, the maximum exponent of these engines is the 1.4 16v MultiAir Turbo engine.
