There was no need to wait for the Geneva Motor Show. Discover all the new features of the 5th generation of the SEAT Ibiza, the bestseller of the Spanish brand.

The arrival of the fifth generation Ibiza represents one of the most important moments for SEAT this year. Since 2014, the engineers of the Spanish brand have been working hard on the design of the new SEAT Ibiza, but the changes to the previous model are not too radical.

Like the renewed SEAT Leon, which we got to know first hand in Barcelona, the development of the new generation Ibiza was faced with a philosophy of continuity, and looking at the success of the Spanish model – in 33 years, the SEAT Ibiza has sold more than 5.4 million units worldwide – it's easy to see why.

From the outside, the Ibiza follows in the footsteps of its older brother, particularly in the front section. Both the front grille and the air intakes and light groups have been redesigned to add a sportier character to the new Ibiza. Further back, the headlights and bumpers were also revised.

As for the technological platform, everything is new. SEAT spared no effort in developing the new Ibiza. Let's start with the cabin.

In the cabin, we find the latest generation of the brand's infotainment system, in the form of an 8-inch screen in the center console. In addition to more technology on board, the new SEAT Ibiza will be more spacious, thanks to the use of the well-known MQB platform – which allows not only to increase the overall dimensions (inside and out) but also to lose weight and improve the dynamic chapter (something very important for the Spanish brand.

In this new generation, SEAT has discarded the van (ST) and three-door (SC) variants, and for this reason the Ibiza will only be offered in the 5-door version (in the pictures).

In the range of engines, there are engines for all tastes. With the exception of the new 150 hp 1.5 TSI block that only arrives at the end of the year (the first will debut at the Golf), we will be able to count on the usual three- and four-cylinder blocks from the VW Group, all focused on efficiency (the Cupra version stays for later). Among them we highlight the 1.6 TDI engine in versions of 80, 95 and 110 hp. In gasoline engines, the star is the well-known 1.0 TSI in the 95 and 115 hp versions.

It should be noted that the SEAT Arona will also be born from this platform, a compact SUV that will rank below the Ateca in the hierarchy of the Spanish brand and which will be entirely developed and produced at the Martorell factory. A big year for SEAT.

The new SEAT Ibiza will be at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and you'll be able to see everything first hand here at Razão Automóvel.
