With this partnership, Daimler wants to gain an advantage in the race for autonomous driving.

The links of the Californian brand to the German giant are not new, but Uber and Daimler have just signed a cooperation agreement that represents another step in the development of autonomous driving. For now, the details of the agreement are sparse, but everything indicates that Daimler will supply autonomous Mercedes-Benz models to Uber's global ridesharing services platform for years to come.

Remember that Mercedes-Benz recently obtained a license to test the latest E-Class on public roads in the state of Nevada (USA), and as such, the German executive appears as the main candidate to join the fleet of models from Uber.

“As the inventors of the automobile, we want to be a leader when it comes to autonomous driving. The real revolution in mobility services lies in the intelligent link between four trends – connectivity, autonomous driving, sharing and electric mobility. And we will certainly be the harbingers of this change.”

Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Daimler AG.

Uber is currently testing its own autonomous driving technology on Volvo models in the US, the result of a partnership with the Swedish brand. On the contrary, in the case of Daimler, the technology will be developed by the German manufacturer without any involvement from Uber.
