MINI is also electric. Cooper SE unveiled in Frankfurt

Anonim

After a (long) wait, MINI finally entered the “battle of the electrics”, 60 years after the launch of the original Mini in 1959. The chosen “weapon” was, as expected, the eternal Cooper, who in this electrified incarnation gives the name of Cooper SE and we were able to see him at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Very similar to its 'brothers' with a combustion engine, the Cooper SE is distinguished by its new grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers, new wheels and the extra 18 mm of ground height it presents compared to other MINIs, courtesy of need to accommodate the batteries.

Speaking of batteries, the pack has a capacity of 32.6 kWh, allowing the Cooper SE to travel between 235 and 270 km (WLTP values converted to NEDC). Helping to increase autonomy, the electric MINI features two regenerative braking modes that can be selected independently of the driving mode.

Viewed from the rear, the Cooper SE is quite similar to the other Coopers.

Featherweight? Not really…

Powered by the same engine used by the BMW i3s, the Cooper SE has 184 hp (135 kW) of power and 270 Nm of torque , numbers that allow you to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.3s and reach a maximum speed of 150 km/h (electronically limited).

Weighing in at 1365 kg (DIN), the Cooper SE is far from a featherweight, being up to 145 kg heavier than the Cooper S with automatic transmission (Steptronic). As you'd expect, the electric MINI has four driving modes: Sport, Mid, Green and Green+.

Inside, one of the few new features is the 5.5” digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel.

Despite having seen him in Frankfurt, it is not yet known when the Cooper SE will arrive in Portugal or how much it will cost.
