The irreverence of the Renault R5 Turbo and the Renault Clio V6 is already well known to everyone… but times change, the protagonists change, discover the new Renault TwinRun!
We had already heard about the possible creation of this Renault TwinRun here and now the brand (finally…) has made it official. Although still a prototype, Renault revealed at the 71st Monaco Grand Prix that its Renault objective is simple: to continue to cultivate the brand's sporting spirit and passion for the car. And along the way, pay a deserved tribute to the already legendary R5 Turbo and Clio V6.
While it may not seem like it at first glance, this Renault TwinRun is a true miniature racing car. They do not believe? Well, for starters, this «pocket rocket» comes based on a high-performance multitubular steel chassis, developed based on technology used in aeronautics. In the rear center position comes a 3.5 liter old-school V6 (same as Megane Trophy) ready to charge something like 320 hp of power at 6,800 rpm and 380 Nm of torque at 4,850 rpm! No downsizings and companies… Maybe they are more believers now, no?
Serving the V6 engine is a six-speed SADEV sequential gearbox, and on the rear axle a self-locking differential. According to the French brand, the famous race from 0 to 100 km/h will take place in incredible and brief periods 4.5 seconds . And just from this data, it is already visible how irreverent this Renault TwinRun will be. Top speed is limited to 250 km/h.
The Twin’Run's hatchback architecture creates “sustainability” at high speeds, so the aero package includes a diffuser that channels the airflow under the car and a fixed aileron for greater aerodynamic support at high speeds.
It's still too early to know if the legacy of the R5 Turbo and Clio V6 will be maintained by this TwinRun but for now things are promising… Now watch the trailer for «Small and Furious» (this should be the name of the video below).
