Will the world know the successor to the Renault 5 Turbo? Meet the Renault TwinRun.
Renault has been one of the brands that the best Hatchbacks have launched on the market in recent years. We can talk about the Renault Megane RS, the Renault Clio RS, the Renault Clio V6 or go back to the 90s and find the no less impressive Renault Clio Williams.
But if we really want to get to the "nerve" of the matter, we'll have to go back a little further: to the crazy 80s. A time when the French brand launched a model that marked generations and was never forgotten by car lovers. We're talking – as you've already guessed… – about the Renault 5 Turbo. A model that had it all: low weight, mid-engine, rear-wheel drive and a turbo engine capable of putting your eyes on the back of your neck.
To take advantage of this technological menu, the only requirements required were: talent and nerves of steel.
Fortunately, it seems that our nostalgia for the Renault 5 Turbo also extends to the French brand. The spy photos we show you show the Renault TwinRun concept, a model that we believe is a revival of the crazy «5 Turbo».
Watch the video and confirm that you too draw the same conclusions as us. Due to the width of the rear tracks and the profile of the bodywork, we believe that this is a mid-engined model and due to the dynamics of the Renault TwinRun it is very likely that it is rear-wheel drive. As for the sound – epic… – we bet on a four-cylinder turbo unit.
With the announcement that the historic Alpine brand will return to the market to name Renault's sportiest models, this prototype may come into production as a sort of Twingo Alpine, heir of the Renault 5 Turbo spirit. Until then keep your fingers crossed!
