Lisbon. Motorbikes will be able to circulate in the BUS lane in (almost) the entire city

The circulation of motorcycles in public transport lanes was already a reality in three arteries of the city of Lisbon – Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian, Avenida de Berna and Rua Braamcamp – as a result of a pilot project in March of last year.

Now, the expansion of the BUS&MOTO project has been approved, which will allow motorcyclists to circulate in most BUS corridors in the capital, as is the case with what is already happening, for example, in the city of Porto. The decision of the municipal executive, taken last Wednesday, was announced on the Facebook page of the Municipality of Lisbon (CML).

In addition to this measure, another 1450 parking spaces for motorcycles will be created in the parishes of Arroios, Avenidas Novas, Santo António, Penha de França, Santa Maria Maior, São Vicente, Campo Ourique and Campolide.

The city of Lisbon will thus provide a total of 4000 seats exclusively for two-wheeled vehicles. According to the president of the CML, Fernando Medina, the 2nd phase of the project will extend the parking spaces to Alvalade, Areeiro, Arroios, Beato, Belém, Carnide, Estrela, Lumiar, Marvila, Parque das Nações, Santa Clara and S.D. Benfica.
