Announced the intention to overthrow the fastest lap records, for vehicles with only front wheel drive, on the main world circuits — including the Estoril —, the new Honda Civic Type R has just added another mark to its curriculum — later the German Nürburgring and the French Magny-Cours, now it was the turn of the legendary Spa-Francorchamps, in Belgium.

This time with LMP2 champion and Super GT driver Bertrand Baguette at the wheel, the Civic Type R has just set a new record for fastest lap at Spa-Francorchamps, with a time of 2min53.72s!

Driven by the well-known four-cylinder 2.0 l gasoline turbo engine delivering 320 hp and 400 Nm of torque, the Japanese sports car was able, according to Honda, to make the best use of the 7.004 km of the Belgian track, thus managing to secure a new brand.

For me, as a racing driver, it's clear that the Civic Type R was born for the track. Although it also feels good on the everyday roads. When I sit in the car, I notice it's very comfortable and has great visibility around.

Remember that the challenge assumed by Honda to set new records on the main world circuits, with the new Honda Civic Type R, started less than a year ago, with the Japanese model taking off the fastest lap at the Nürburgring, with a time of 7min43.08s . This year, in May, the model also set the fastest lap for front-wheel drive sports cars in Magny-Cours, with a time of 2min01.51s.

Since the challenge will continue…
