Lamborghini discards Aventador with rear wheel drive

Unlike the Lamborghini Huracán, the Aventador will not have a rear-wheel drive version.

According to Maurizio Reggiani, director of research and development for the Italian brand, the Lamborghini Huracán was designed from the outset to be launched in two variants: one with all-wheel drive and the other with rear-wheel drive.

With this news, half the world was waiting for the launch of an Aventador with the same characteristics. However, when it comes to the Lamborghini Aventador, things change. The Lamborghini Aventador was never intended as a rear-wheel drive car.

According to those responsible for Lamborghini, the Aventador's 690hp V12 6.5 engine is too powerful to use only rear-wheel drive, “it's only possible to maneuver it in an all-wheel-drive configuration”, said Reggiani.

The Italian brand's first SUV, the next Lamborghini Urus, will also feature all-wheel drive. “A rear-wheel-drive SUV would just be an imitation of a 4×4, without the off-road capabilities that our customers will crave,” said Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini boss.
