Mini Convertible Revealed

The brand revealed the first images of the new Mini Cabrio. It arrives on the Portuguese market in March.

The new Mini Convertible has grown 98mm in length, 44mm in width, 7mm in height and has seen its wheelbase increased by 28mm over its predecessor. It uses the UKL platform, which results in a 25% increase in its luggage capacity, now having 215 liters (or 160 liters with the roof retracted).

Unsurprisingly, MINI wanted to keep to the three-door design that has always been a hit across the land of its majesty and around the world. It only takes 18 seconds to enter summer mode and blow your hair out (not to exceed 30km/h).

Those more interested in the MINI can purchase it in very California look-a-like colors, such as Carribean Aqua and Melting Silver, among others. Inside, we find a dashboard and benches covered in Chester leather of different colors, which will leave the sofa at home melted with envy. While we're talking about comfort, we have good news for those blessed with heights: the new MINI Convertible will be 38mm wider in the knee area as well as the bulkier seats, expecting a significant increase in on-board comfort.

In terms of powertrains, the new MINI Convertible offers for the Cooper version the well-known 3-cylinder 1.5 liter turbo petrol engine with 136hp and 220Nm of torque (230Nm in overboost). In the diesel version, the Mini Cooper D will be available with 116hp and 270Nm (300 Nm in overboost). The S version will be available with a 4-cylinder engine with 2 liters, capable of developing 192hp combined with 280Nm of torque (300Nm in overboost). Here the 0-100km/h arrives in 6.1 seconds and the top speed is 230km/h, if combined with the 6-speed manual gearbox. With automatic transmission, the «race» is won by just 0.1 seconds of difference.

Later there will be room for a 1.2 hp petrol engine with 102 hp (Mini One Cabrio) and in diesel proposals for a 2.0 turbo engine with 170 hp (Cooper SD). In the future, the John Cooper Works version will also join MINI's hair-in-the-wind party, featuring 231 hp and a 2-liter turbo gasoline engine. For the time being, prices have not yet been presented for Portugal.
