End of production: Is the MINI dead? Long live the MINI!

Anonim

The British brand marks the end of production of the current generation of MINI, after 1,863,289 units manufactured, between 2001 and 2013.

In days gone by, when a King died people would cry, "The King is dead, long live the King!" A common practice, in what was a kind of legitimation of the successor of the ill-fated King. Here we are not talking about kings or queens, we are talking about the death and rebirth of MINI, the historic English compact. An analogy that makes perfect sense when we talk about a model born in the land of «His Majesty».

1,863,289 units later the current generation MINI comes to an end, a commercial journey that lasted 10 years, with a slight facelift in 2006 – marking the departure of the last unit of the current generation at the Oxford factory with pomp and circumstance.

The British brand, which is now in the hands of BMW, hopes that its successor – already presented and scheduled for sale in the spring of 2014, will experience even greater commercial success than this generation. To this end, BMW invested 901 million euros in the modernization of production units in the United Kingdom: Oxford (final assembly), Swindon (harness and bodywork) and Hams Hall (engine assembly). Now we hope that the people accept with the same firmness the successor of the one who was the "King of the modern MINIS".
