Pedro Lamy is to be congratulated, and no, it's not his birthday. The 17th of June 2012 will be forever in the Portuguese driver's memory, as the day he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Pedro Lamy got the better of the competition in the GTE Am category of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, thus achieving victory in this class.

Although he shares the Corvette C6-ZR1 with Patrick Bornhauser and Julien Canal, the driver from Alenquer was certainly the one who best enjoyed this victory, whether or not he was responsible for crossing the line and for having achieved victory in the final minutes of the race in a uphill battle with the Porsche 911 RSR from the IMSA Performance Matmut team.

“It was an intense fight throughout the 24 hours of the race. It felt more like a “sprint” race, where we had to push all the way through. It was a tough race, but with a special flavor. I am very pleased with this victory and I want to thank everyone for the great support they have given me throughout every moment of my career. This victory is not just mine, it belongs to all of us”, said the Portuguese driver.

The Portuguese people here have another reason to be proud to see Pedro Lamy on the podium at Le Mans. For the more inattentive, Lamy is already a regular runner in the mythical Le Mans race. Last year he raced for the now-defunct Peugeot team, taking second place in the LMP1 category.
